Last day of the month

Well, today's the last day of January. And hump day (we're 1/2 way there!). According to ole Neil, a passing upper disturbance and a possible coastal low are forecast to bring us another wet day tomorrow. Oh joy. As long as it clears up by Saturday for the market!
Sunday is the Super Bowl. Not that I'm such a fan. Altho I do get a kick outta the commercials.
And from what I hear K-Fed will be in one making fun of himself. Now there's a concept.
I really need to be doing some more painting. As in oil. Tough thing is though, to force yourself when you're not really in the mood. I just wish I was a more prolific painter. I know quantity isn't everything. But I can't have a body of work w/out lots and lots of paintings. And I enjoy painting, I love to be "in the zone," but I just wish the urge would hit me a little more often. My problem is I think too much. I analyze myself right out of things. Well, I gotta go pay some bills and balance some ck bks. Have a good one!

Rain's back...

Well, it looks like the rain's back. Not that I mind. I actually enjoy it. Especially when I get to stay home, sleep late and be a lazy slug. I love the sound of the rain, it's so soothing. Especially lying in bed, all nestled and warm. Not today, off to work I must go! Even tho my boss is in China (Hong Kong & Shanghi), she's so lucky!
My boyfriend's parakeets are currently visiting me. The green female is Savana and the blue male is Houdini (earned because of his escape escapades!). Speaking of birds. How bout that ring-neck duck in Tallahassee? She is amazing! Not only did she survive being shot, but then she lived for 2 days in a refrigerator. When the hunter's wife opened the frig, much to her astonishment, the duck looked up at her! The duck, now named Perky, underwent surgery to repair the gunshot-damaged wing. There on the operating table she had a close call again, she stopped breathing. But thanks to the vet's CPR, she made it! What an incredible story and what a survivor!!

Sad News

The great racehorse Barbaro (who had won last year's Kentucky Derby) had to be put down. He pulled up lame after starting last year's Preakness Race. Several surgeries and procedures were done to try and save the horse. But after 8 months and what at first looked like a promising recovery, there was a turn recently for the worse. And the decision was made so as to prevent any more suffering of the horse.
RIP Barbaro, you will live on in history.

Tarot card

The other day I noticed what appeared to be a playing card lying face down in my front yard. So I picked it up. It wasn't a playing card, but a tarot card (I think so anyway). It was a picture of a king w/ a sword and the number 12. So I did an online search and this is what it said:
"The focus is on advancement, inner and outer conflicts, legal matters, professional assistance and clarity.
As with all Court cards, it is also possible for a King to represent a person. The astrological sign for the King of Swords is Libra. This could indicate a judge; someone who has the power of command, and perhaps the power of life and death. He is determined in both his friendship and his enmity; also a wise counselor. Others advectives to describe this person might be: compassionate, poised, fair, perceptive, just, sensitive, balanced - can also appear wishy-washy since all sides are weighed before making a decision. This King may represent the vocations of: lawyer, psychologist, counselor, interior decorator, armed forces or law enforcement."

Chinese New Year: year of the Boar

Well, I'm a bull in the zodiac but evidently a boar in the chinese calendar. And this, 2007, is the yr of the boar:
"Pure of heart, Boars are generous and kind. Because they are full of inner strength and courage, Boars can take on any task. They are driven by their passion and pleasure for life. They are sincere and trustworthy, enabling them to be very good listeners, as well as friends. Altho Boars are blessed w/ many lifelong friends, they are prone to marital strife."
I know that's right!
p.s. We were gonna have a Chinese New Yr party, but it's the same nite (Sat Feb 17) as the Mardi Gras in Galveston! ning! merrh!

Janus

Before this month is over, I just wanted to add:
January's namesake is Janus, the Roman God of gateways, doors, beginnings and endings.
Rather interesting. In fact, I want to do a painting w/ that for a theme.
Speaking of paintings, I did 3 last nite. Well, 1 completed (an abstract), 1 3/4's thru (an ocean) and 1 1/2 way (me as Mystique and Masoud as Janus).

Today's news tidbits...

New York's going to spruce up their free condoms (NY hands out 1.5 million free condoms a month) w/ some jazzy new packaging (colorful subway map or other city theme). Their reasoning: brands work; people use branded items more than non-branded. Maybe an "I love NY"?

The Dallas City Council in a split vote has decided to allow dogs to join their owners on the outdoor patios of restaurants. Deputy Mayor Pro-Tem Elba Garcia said "Animals are their children. I can't blame anyone for wanting to dine w/their pets." What about cats? Birds?

Just when you thought you heard it all....
from London: Got milk? Lonely dairy farmers are looking for dates using photos on milk bottles. Looking for love in all the wrong places?

And this is "regular" news, not even news of the bizarre. Go figure.

Alright!!

A couple of my dear artist friends just found my new blog!
Thanks for droppin in ya'll! Thank God it's Friday, I'm ready to party!!

Finally!!! At Long Last...

Well, folks. Here it is. Finally. I always said I was gonna do a blog. And ta dum! Here it is. I still have to set up my profile. But one thing at a time. I'm just so stoked to be finally in blog-shere! woo hoo!!
